- A second preprint has found that mice injected with antibodies from people with Long Covid led to the mice developing Long Covid-like symptoms. This means that people with Long Covid may have a dysfunctional immune system that attacks its own tissues. The researchers wrote that future research targeting auto-antibodies might benefit some people with Long Covid. Science reported that one research team is considering a trial that would remove [autoantibodies] from the blood of someone with Long Covid.
- An enormous study in Nature Human Behavior found an increased risk of neuropsychiatric outcomes following Covid-19 infection. The study assessed a cohort of over 20 million people from Japan and South Korea and found an increased risk following infection of Guillain-Barré syndrome, cognitive deficit, insomnia, encephalitis, ischaemic stroke, and other conditions. Vaccination was found to help slightly decrease long term risk. “Our findings contribute to the growing evidence base on Long Covid by considering ethnic diversity,” the study’s authors wrote.
- A new study conducted by researchers at the University of Sussex is assessing experiences in Long Covid support groups. The researchers are looking for international participants to complete a set of online surveys sharing their experiences in these groups “to see whether this impacts mental and physical health, and to explore potential reasons for such an impact.”
