Dear reader,
Last week, we published a short excerpt from Invisible Illness by Emily Mendenhall, a book that was recently released. While the excerpt, “A History of Post-Viral Conditions,” met our standards for excerpting and contained an interesting chronicle of infection-associated chronic conditions (IACCs), readers of ours have pointed out that the greater text contains claims minimizing the harms of graded exercise therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and functional neurological disorder on people with IACCs, as well as minimizing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
As a result, we decided to take down the excerpt as we did not want to help publicize these claims. Our motto has always been “No denial, minimizing, or gaslighting here,” and we take that very seriously. As the lead editor in publishing this excerpt, I take full responsibility and would like to formally apologize to our readers.
Sincerely,
Miles W. Griffis, Executive Editor, The Sick Times
